| Clean green pristine - that’s
my place!
With four distinct seasons the Wanaka area
offers a fantastic permanent living environment and an attractive
holiday destination. Low humidity, 2000 sunshine hours and
a rainfall of around 682mm, make the climate healthy and easy
to live in.
Summer sports activities include the lakes,
rivers and mountains and all they have to offer by way of
fishing, water sports, tramping climbing and biking. Winter
offers skiing, snow boarding, both downhill, cross country
and parks on four internationally respected fields.
The town is replete with arts, crafts and sporting groups.
There is an 18 hole golf course inside the town boundary and
several small and large courses within an hours drive. Amenities
include 6 churches, a community centre, kindergartens and
play centres, tennis courts, croquet and a retirement village.
The local cinema “Paradiso” has become a regional
icon offering laid back arm chair comfort and food/beverages
on site. Restaurants abound to tempt any palate and price
range.
There is a choice of two junior schools, the
Wanaka Primary and Holy Family Catholic, and then onto Mount
Aspiring College a form 1-7 school which
attracts pupils from throughout the country to experience
their outdoor pursuits programme and also boasts a relatively
new campus with an international language school.
The population is 6,440 and has risen phenomenally
in the last ten years. Tourism, Building, Land Development,
and Wineries have replaced the strong agriculture of 20 years
ago, although there are still several Central Otago High Country
properties producing fine wool in the area. The area is well
serviced by builders, trades people, storage facilities
(see www.wanakastorage.co.nz),
supermarkets and a range of shopping and dining experiences.
